History of Shaving: Science, Technology and Razor Innovations | Gillette

Gillette’s story is a
relentless quest for perfection. It encompasses a passion
for science and technology, but first and foremost,
it’s about shaving. There was a time when we visited
the barber for a perfect shave. He had the skill and the
tools to prepare and soften the face, to lubricate the
beard, to stretch the skin, to place the right amount
of pressure on the blade, and cut at the perfect angle using
the sensitivity of his fingers and the pivot of his wrist, and to leave
the customer feeling clean and fresh. It was almost a perfect shave. But time consuming and
expensive, King C. Gillette created his legendary first
safety blade for use at home. And he strove to improve it until
no further improvement was possible, a quest that has outlived him. For more than a century now,
men have told us what they want. We have listened, and
Gillette razors have evolved– changing shape,
adding blades, revolutionizing the pivot between handle and
blade, transforming the interface between razor and skin. Each step has taken us
closer to the barber’s skill– responsive, sensitive,
agile, close, comfortable. And each has been
driven not by the desire to change the product for its own
sake, but by a never ending quest to emulate that perfect shave.

  1. the modern gillette razors give me a lot of bumps and irritation , I tried using vintage gillette safety razor and it is much better , comfortable and cheaper than new gillette , but u must learn about it first before using it .

  2. Safety Razors are 10x better than any cartridge razor and much cheaper. Even easier on sensitive skin. I use to get razor burn all the time, but nowhere near as much sense I’ve switched to a safety razor.

  3. I do not see how a cartridge razor's is an improvement over DE razor's. In fact I switched from Gilette Mach 3 to a DE shaver a couple of month's ago. And never looked back.

  4. Safety razors are better and cheaper over time than any cartridge razor plus the blades are recyclable
    Been using mine since 18

  5. I will never use another Gillette or Procter and Gamble product or service again, because of your sexist war on testosterone. Those company names are dirty words in my family now.

  7. Safety razors are MUCH older than gillette. They started off as improvements on straight razors, adding combs and other structures that pull the skin to give a better shave with less skill. The "T" shaped razor design was done sometime mid 19th cent. iirc. By the time of Gillette safety razors were likely the norm, and they usually had a single unremovable blade. It required less skill to use, was much harder to cut yourself by mistake, but STILL required honing and stropping for daily use (look up "rolls razor" as an example). Gillettes GREAT idea about "replaceable blades" was AS MUCH about making a lot of money (people would have to keep buying more razors) as it was about improving this millenia old art.

  8. Bring Back A Classic Gillette DE Razor From The Past To Sell In Shops Id Buy One Like Wilkinsword Has Recently Done In UK …. PLZ

  9. The irony of you disabling freedom of speech on your new ad featuring brave US military personnel who defend it. Disgusting.

Gillette – depressed a man can get

  10. Lets resume it :

"Guillete create somethkng magnificent in 1900 , and then destroy it all in 2018 /19 , by the way , please dont be a men , be a woman ! Now you can , guillete discovered how in 2018/2019 …."

  11. Make safety razors again 🙏 these newer ones can’t hold a candle to the safety razor. Aka twist to open adjustable safety razor
