  1. Great! I'm looking for alternatives to install vmware-tools a long time ago. you are likeable person

  2. After installing SliTaz 4.0 on vmware following this tutorial the vmware tools mouse driver was not loaded and I had to press ctrl + alt inside vmware workstation window to release the mouse cursor from it… every time…
After a lot of research I have managed to fix it.

    Solution
    / workaround:
    1. Keep looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see what modules is loading and NOT loading and why untill is fixed.
    2. Verify that the drivers vmmouse_drv.so and vmmouse_drv.la are located in /usr/lib/X11/modules/input and NOT in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input
    3. Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf to look like this:

    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Keyboard0"
    Driver "kbd"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "VMware Mouse"
    Driver "vmmouse"
    Option "CorePointer"
    Option "AlwaysCore"
    Option "Protocol" "ps/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off"
    Identifier "Simple Layout"
    InputDevice "VMware Mouse" "CorePointer"
    InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    EndSection
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
    EndSection

    4. If after that you find your keyboard is not working go to TazPanel -> Packages, search 'xorg' and install xorg-xf86-input-keyboard. These are the keyboard drivers, they should appear in same folder as vmmouse with the name kbd_drv.so

    Hope this helps.
