How to Remove and Replace the Motherboard | HP EliteDesk 705 G4, G3 and HP ProDesk 405 G4


Before you begin: Remove the access panel, 2.5in storage drive, storage drive cage. wireless LAN module, m.2 solid state drive, option board, fan, heat sink, and CPU. Removal Disconnect the speaker cable from the connector on the mother board. Remove the three 9 mm T15 Torx-head screws that secure the mother board to the chassis. Lift the front edge of the mother board and guide the external connectors on the mother board out of the cut outs in the chassis. Remove the mother board. NOTE: Before installing a new mother board, remove the following from the old mother board and install onto the new mother board: Memory board(s) CMOS battery Thermal Sensor Thermal Pad Replacement At an angle, toe the external connectors on the rear edge of the mother board into the cut outs in the chassis and lower it into position. Replace the three 9 mm T15 Torx-head screws that secure the mother board to the chassis. Connect the speaker cable into the connector on the mother board.
