Kali Linux 2.0 Tutorial 1 | Install Kali on VMware Workstation

Hello and welcome to the first video of Kali
Linux Tutorial Series. In this video I will demonstrate how to download
Kali Linux and install it as a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 12. But first, what is Kali Linux? Kali is an operating system based on the Linux
kernel and is a distribution of Linux preloaded with hacking tools for penetration testing. First open your web browser and search for
Kali Linux. You can also go to the download page using
the links below in the description. Click on Downloads and download the image
of the operating system you require in either 64 or 32 bit. ISOs can either be downloaded directly from
Kali servers or via Torrent. In my case I have already downloaded the full
64-bit ISO of Kali onto my Desktop. Now open VMware Workstation and click on the
plus icon to create a new virtual machine. On the window that pops up click on next,
and select installer disk image (ISO). Click on browse, navigate to the location
where you saved your kali ISO, select it and click on open. Click next and under the guest operating system
select Linux and from the version list below select Debian 7.X 64bit or 32 bit depending
of which version you downloaded. Click Next and change the name to Kali Linux. You can also change the default save location
here as well. Click next and set 25 gigabytes as the maximum
usable disk space. Click next again and click Finish to end the
setup wizard. Now click on edit virtual machine settings
and under memory click on 1 gigabyte as the virtual machine’s memory. Also under network adapter select bridge and
click ok. Click ok and power on the virtual machine. If you get some pop ups just click ok unless
you get any errors. You will then get a prompt to download VMware
tools for Linux, so click on download and install. Now for the actual installation part. In the boot menu select graphical install
and press enter. Select English as your Kali language and click
continue. Now select your time zone. In my case, it is other and click continue. Now select your continent which in my case
is Europe and click continue again. In this screen select your country and click
on continue. In the configure locales screen select United
Kingdom and click on continue once more. Finally select your keyboard layout which
in my case is British English and click on continue again. Kali Linux should now begin installation on
your virtual machine. Leave the hostname as is and click continue. Leave the domain name area blank and click
continue once again. Now type in a password for your Kali. Installation should now resume. Now onto the partition disks. Select Guided – Use entire disk and click
continue once more. Now click continue in the disk selection screen
again. In the partitioning scheme select all files
in one partition and click continue. Again… Finally select Finish partitioning and write
changes to disk. Click continue and in the next screen select
yes to write changes and click continue again. You will now get to the use a network mirror screen. Select yes and click continue. Leave the proxy information screen blank and
click continue again. The next screen asks if you want to install
the GRUB boot loader. Select yes and click continue. The final screen asks for the location where
the GRUB boot loader should be installed. Select /dev/sda and click continue. It should now give out a message saying installation
complete. Click continue for the last time. Kali should now restart and ask you for your
user name. Type in root and click next. Type in your password click on sign in and
you are set to go! In the next video I will demonstrate how to
install VMware tools on Kali Linux. I case you liked this video leave a thumbs
