Overwatch – HERO 32, New Animated Short, & MORE Blizzcon 2019 Expectations

What’s up everybody this is Master Ian Gamer,
now that Blizzcon 2019 is only a few shorts weeks away, there’s a ton to discuss regarding
the new content for Overwatch which we can expect to make a debut at the event. From new heroes and maps to animated shorts
and quite possibly even a new Overwatch game entirely, there’s a lot to get hyped for
when it comes to Blizzcon 2019! So without further ado, let’s get into it! Because of how much stuff there is to talk
about regarding anticipated new content reveals for this year’s Blizzcon event, I’m going
to organize the topics in this video from most realistic to most speculative. And to start, we have the reveal of Hero 32! This one is pretty much the most guaranteed
of all possible new content reveals, because, well new heroes are the biggest kind of new
content! Maps and events and limited time Overwatch
League Legendary skins are great and all, but the lifeblood of Overwatch as a game is
new heroes. They generate the most hype and are the most
important thing for keeping Overwatch fresh and fun as time goes on. And since we’ve consistently seen a new
hero announced at Blizzcon every single year since Overwatch launched back in 2016, it’s
rather safe to say that we’ll be blessed with another one in 2019. Now as for the specifics of Hero 32’s role
and identity, I won’t delve too much into it here since I’ve already made a video
going super in depth with what we can expect for them as well as heroes 33 and 34. So if you haven’t seen that video already,
than I strongly recommend you check it out after watching this one, and I’ll have links
to it in both the description as well as the cards on screen. Since posting that video however, there has
been a small, potential teaser for this new hero, which is the Grey snow globe. Now I haven’t actually covered this on my
channel yet, but in short, this small snow globe was added to the Ecopoint: Antarctica
map in the most recent patch, and it’s quite mysterious. The word “grey” could mean anything. This could be alluding to the name of an upcoming
hero, possibly a new map, or it might only be an inside joke dropped by one of Overwatch’s
level designers that in no way signifies anything whatsoever. Even if it is relevant to an upcoming hero
or other kind of in game content, there’s no guarantee that it’ll even be something
we see anytime soon. Need I remind you of the Lijiang Tower wheelchair,
which has so far been in the game for more than two years now with only the occasional
bit of side story development regarding it? This snow globe may very well be tied to something
we’ll see at Blizzcon 2019, but given how ambiguous of a clue it is at the moment, there’s
just no way of knowing for sure. One final thing I’ll mention about Hero
32 before moving on though is that regardless of who or what the new hero is, we likely
won’t be seeing any proper teasers for them beforehand. Historically, unlike the hero releases at
other times throughout the year, all previous Blizzcon heroes have gone without any kind
of social media teasers leading up to their releases. Sure, Sombra had her whole ARG and Moira and
Ashe both had subtle nods beforehand, but don’t expect Blizzard to post some kind
of hero teaser clip or info on social media a week before Blizzcon. If there are going to be any hints for the
new hero, they most likely have already dropped, and we may have just not realized it yet. Moving away from new heroes however, the next
big Overwatch thing to get excited about for this year’s Blizzcon is the new animated
short! Like heroes, there has been a new Overwatch
animated short every year since Overwatch launched, which means that it’s likely for
us to get another one in 2019. Now I will acknowledge that, prior to 2019,
we used to actually get two shorts a year. One in August for Gamescom, and the second
at Blizzcon in November. However, there was no Gamescom short this
year. In fact, Blizzard didn’t even have a presence
at Gamescom at all. This does raise the question then of whether
Blizzard has cut Overwatch shorts entirely, or just trimmed them back from two a year
to one. As a huge fan of both animation and Overwatch,
I of course hope that it’s the latter. And the good news is that it most likely is. It seemed inevitable that Blizzard would cut
back on the Overwatch animated shorts sooner than later, as they are ungodly expensive
to produce, and more than likely have a pretty terrible return on investment. More than anything they’re an excuse for
Blizzard to flaunt the prowess of their animation department while also serving as decent marketing
for the game. But as Overwatch grows older and older and
becomes less mainstream within the gaming community, it seemed inevitable that Blizzard
would eventually decide that they’re not worth the investment. I wouldn’t even have been surprised if they’d
cut it down to just one short a year back in 2018, but nonetheless it looks like 2019
has finally brought about this change. However, going from two shorts a year to zero
shorts a year would stir up quite a bit of fuss in the community. Naturely, people still love seeing them, so
if Blizzard were to still produce them at all, it’d make sense for them to push the
one they have out during Blizzcon. So in terms of a new animated short at Blizzcon
2019, it’s technically not guaranteed, but isl incredibly likely. On top of a new short being likely to happen,
we may even know a bit already about which hero will be featured in it. Jeff Kaplan teased a little while back that
Zenyatta specifically would be getting some more story development in the not so distant
future. So far we have yet to see this new Zen story
released, but considering that we haven’t seen a new Overwatch comic in more than a
year at this point, an animated short seems like a very probable medium through which
to develop his character. Once again though, it’s not guaranteed. The Zen story could end up being told in a
mini event sometime in the near future, and the animated short may instead focus on Hero
32 or some other character’s story entirely. But, it is worth noting that Zenyatta has
a decent chance, which would be super dope given that he’s one of the heroes who so
far has had very, very little lore and character story development. Shifting onto a different expectation though,
the next new content addition we may be seeing at Blizzcon 2019 is a new map. Now this one is somewhat interesting to consider
given the context of past maps which were released at Blizzcon in addition to the current
map release schedule situation. In both 2016 and 2017, a new Overwatch map
was shown off at Blizzcon, which then didn’t hit live servers until January of the following
year. In 2018, there was no new map shown off at
Blizzcon, with Blizzard claiming that they didn’t want it to be overshadowed by the
other content reveals during the event. We did end up getting the new map revealed
eventually, however it didn’t hit live servers until February of 2019, being a full month
later than the maps released both years prior. In addition to this, we’ve also historically
had maps revealed at Gamescom in August that then go live a month later in September. However, as I said with the animated short
this year, Blizzcon didn’t go to Gamescom and subsequently there was no new map. So in terms of new map additions, we’re
actually farther behind schedule right now with regards to map releases than we’ve
ever been since the launch of Overwatch. And this is where Blizzcon becomes a point
of focus. We may again be seeing a new map shown off
at Blizzcon 2019, however, it would be the map we otherwise were supposed to get back
in September, which could mean that it ends up being released to live servers sometime
either in November or December. Assuming that Blizzard is shifting to a two
maps a year release cycle now instead of the previous three maps a year, this would make
for an opportune window of time. It’s roughly half a year away from when
we typically see the new maps released for the Archives event, which would keep all new
maps going forward fairly spaced out from each other. And on top of that, it lets Blizzard cram
more reveals into Blizzcon, which is really the best time to show off new content. While it’s true that Blizzard previously
used the excuse that they didn’t want new maps to be overshadowed by other Blizzcon
reveals, there’s a pretty good chance that they only said that back in 2018 due to Paris
at the time not being far enough along in development to be shown off. I fully expect that Blizzard would be willing
to go back to showing off new maps at Blizzcon so long as doing so lines up properly with
whatever their new map release schedule will look like moving forward. It’s also entirely possible that the missing
September map will just be a one time thing, and come 2020 we’ll start to see three maps
a year once again. It’s tough to say at this point, but a new
map at Blizzcon 2019 is still a very realistic possibility, albeit one which could go in
a number of different directions. And this now brings us to the final big thing
to expect at Blizzcon 2019, which is Overwatch 2. So far, very little is known about this new
Overwatch title other than the fact that it’s in development and will likely be some kind
of co-op PvE game. Gaming analysts suspect that it’ll be one
of the major topics of Blizzcon 2019, but as we’ve seen countless times in the past
with Blizzard’s projects, there is absolutely no guarantee that this will end up being the
case. Even if all the stars seem aligned for it
to happen, Blizzard could easily hold back its reveal for any number of reasons. Admittedly, the time is certainly ripe for
them to make this kind of announcement though. Overwatch is old enough now where even new
hero releases just don’t quite stir up the same level of excitement as they once did. So breathing new life into the franchise with
either a new standalone title or unique, major expansion would certainly be an ideal step
for Blizzard to take. The truth of the matter though is that it’ll
all come down to whether or not Blizzard actually has something ready to show off by early November. Depending on how far along the game is in
development, they could have anything from a playable demo of it available for Blizzcon
attendees to try out, just a trailer showcasing what the game will look like, or they might
not even mention its existence whatsoever. For the time being, it’s very up in the
air as for what we might see of this new title, if anything, during Blizzcon 2019. However, it’s still an incredibly realistic
possibility in terms of announcements and is possibly the single biggest thing to look
forward to with this year’s event. I’ll be covering the topic of Overwatch
2 and what we might expect from it in greater detail in a separate video later, but for
now, it is still something to get hyped about. Blizzcon 2019 could be the event where Blizzard
reveals a whole new direction for the Overwatch IP, so I for one am super excited to see what
that could end up being! But that does it for all the major anticipated
new content reveals when it comes to Overwatch at Blizzcon 2019! Keep in mind that Blizzard could very easily
blindside us with other surprise new content, such as a new dump of cosmetic items or some
other kind of significant game changes. So, just keep an eye out for any new announcements,
and as always I’ll be covering any new details or updates regarding the event on my channel
both before and during Blizzcon 2019! In the meantime though, let me know what you’re

  3. I wanna see an animated short or something having to do with Hammond vs The Junkertown Queen (assuming he fought her), I think it would be a great way to introduce her

  4. That could be dumb, but I think that Sigma is actually the one that helped Zenyatta to for example, fly around even though he's fighting. The cinematic could show us a bit more the story about Zen and Sigma because these 2 are currently the 2 with the least story developement.

  5. I hope that now overwatch becomes free to play, it's high time now!, my account got banned and m broke right now to buy other account, so just pls make it free jeez its already been like 4 years now since the launch of game!!

  6. Don't think blizzard is gonna have a good blizzcon they kinda fucked themselves when they turned into money whores sucking China's cock

  7. To me, the fact that it’s zenyatta who’s rumored to get more backstory means it’s a safe bet that echo is the next hero, I could see her going nicely in a zenyatta lore video

  8. Dear Master Ian Gamer,

I stopped playing Overwatch ever since the CNY celebration, basically, and I unsubscribed to all the OW channels because I wasn't that interested in them. However, I stuck with your channel because I respected your sincerity and devotion. But I'm afraid I'm unsubscribing from you too, not because of anything you did, but because I've lost all respect for Blizzard with how they dealt with the Blitzchung situation. Thank you.

  9. so, in the first cinematic, there are three "overwatch genres" so to speak. theres "combat, scientists, adventurers, and oddities." as it says. so if orange is combat, green is science…then blue is exploration, which makes sense as winstons suit fits an explorer…and it previously being blue could be explained that it was originally found, and only recently was moved to a science division.

so grey possibly was an adventurer of overwatch.

  10. Anyone else confused about how we haven’t gotten any teasers for Halloween Terror yet?
Also, for Blizzcon I’m hoping for new hero and map mostly

  11. TL:DR Manage your own expectations, people!
Blizzcon 2017 had a new support with a strong presence, a map that really celebrates Blizzards history and the Reinhardt short, a hero everyone likes. IMO the best one ever.
Last year had no map, A DPS with crowd control despite a poor hero ratio and CC being a thorn in every single players side, and a fun short that introduced a mysterious omnic whose name echoes through every speculation video.
OW is, and always will be, a multiplayer game. A single player mode doesn't serve the League, therefore is not likely and could never surpass other single player shooter games on the market. OW 2 would be redundant, we have a game we already love that needs to be nurtured more and more as it grows and the communtiy get bored of its flaws. IMO we need map voting/bans ASAP, it would improve the experience for all players.

  12. Do you guys think that it'll be 20 dollars or something to get "Overwatch 2" even if you currently have an Overwatch account or will it be added to the current Overwatch game for free like the new heroes, balance patches, etc. are.

  13. My expectations is a self induced shit show and Pro Hong Kong protests. Not worth going unless you are joining the protesters.

  14. Honestly I don’t want an overwatch two
I feel like with the focus of them releasing overwatch in the switch they may not even make one

  15. Honestly at this point after so many disappointments, I will be happy and content if they simply only announce a Winter Wonderland event coming in Dec.

  16. Waiting for a "Don't you guys have phones" moment. lol Edit:$260 is a ripoff unless you know they have a good game ready.

  17. The wheelchair belongs to Winston as he needs it once in a while because he was in space for so long. We found that out quite a while ago tbh.

Anyways my predictions for Overwatch are

3 new heroes (Recluse, Echo & Junker Queen)
New Story mode game with video featuring gameplay and the 3 new heroes as well as teasing future ones such as Sojourn, Soundquake & Mauga
    New Events
New Animated short featuring Lúcio or Zenyatta
    A bunch of new cosmetics

  18. Until Blizzard apologises on their fucking knees, DO NOT SUPPORT THEM. I'm talking to you too Ian, you are an influencer, you know what happened. Don't let then get away with silencing people, ESPECIALLY one who support democracy under an oppressive government.

  19. Predict you’ll get a new hero and a new animation, possibly some new gamemode but I don’t think we’ll see anything about a new map nor ”Overwatch 2”

  20. My prediction:
•New animated short that shows echos past and current future. It could include Sojourn

•The new hero: Probably Echo or even Sojourn.

•New map:An underwater map. There might very well be a Indian map that could include story from zenyatta and symmetra.

•The new overwatch expansion might be shown via a non gameplay trailer (cinematic trailer).

  21. 4:28 Blizzard as a Orisa main I want to know why

    1. Why is this my 1st time seeing this skin

2.Why is it not a skin

You got work to do pappa jeff chop chop! 🙃

  22. If ow2 is a thing i hope they dont just let ow die to stuff 2 with skins and maps and lootboxes microtransactions and stuff like that. I juat qanna play ow man

  23. Am I the only one who doesn’t want any more heroes?

Just more ways to get CC’d being added to the game and less probability for you to get content for your favorite hero

  24. Honestly, there was a hype for OW2 last blizzcon too. Doubt its coming anytime soon
Also when Jeff said "we are planning something special with overwatch"(or however he phrased it) it was before the reveal of overwatch on the switch. With blizzard's practice of talking too big, Im pretty certain that it was the Switch release he meant. Dont get hyped up my dudes

  25. I think it's going to be a lot tbh:
    -3 New Heroes
    -Animated Short
    -New Map
    -Overwatch 2 announcement

I know it's on unorthodox for it to be more than 1 hero, but prior to release they released genji, mei, and D.va at the same time as new heroes. Also they announced a year ago that there were 6 heroes in development, they released 3 so far since, why drag out their release any longer? My final point: if the hunch is that they're announcing overwatch 2, they would probably transition their focus away from OW1 and pivot to OW2 meaning the same cycle and schedule will probably be discontinued or at least less of a focus, OWL pretty much is that games money maker and acts autonomously at this point. The devs probably need to continue working on OW2 and releasing 3 heroes will put them a year ahead of our expectations and the usual schedule.

  26. We're gonna get Overwatch 2 and it's gonna be f2p and for mobile with lots of p2w mechanics and mei will be unavailable in the game. Oh and a new Chinese map.

  27. Well, that "Grey" teaser inspired me to make this mega post:
    https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/game-design-fixes-before-blizcon/406465

  28. Do you know the Busan map, there are games and there is a 1vs1 game and there are some creatures which could be some new heroes too!

  29. Damn ian 33k subs i subscibed to you when i played on ps4 a while back. You had like 2k if less, started playing on pc and now you have 33k you definently deserve all of them. Also i remember you had some kind of figure with red clothes as your profilepicture.

  30. I feel like the introduction of role queue has really highlighted the lack of healers and tanks in the game compared to dps. This would be a great time to drop more than one hero, but I'm not holding my breath!

  31. Activision are inhuman pieces of garbage for helping china oppress the Hong kong people and so are the people who play their games

  32. I love how he put expectations at the end so people wouldn’t see the rest of the title and click on the video

  33. Am I the only one who got to the end of the video and realize I didn't hear a thing cuz I was reading the comments?

  34. I’ve got an idea:

Set the scene, king of the hill in New York, the Empire State Building is point I’d modify the map so the building is in the middle of new York square.

  35. They focussed on new content and make the hype for it. The community are asking for more Hero’s to balance out the game. I think they will:

Bring out Hero 32 and 33. A dps and a off healer.

Animated short i hope for zenyetta. Maybe zenyetta has a relation with a new Hero.

    A new map

Overwatch 2 as a dlc for overwatch 1. With new hero’s and pve. I don’t think overwatch 2 will be a big deal but it will make overwatch in general mainstream again.

They hyped the player base a lot for this blizzcon. If they only do one thing of the points above i will be disappointed.

  36. they need new game modes in casual and comp, too many characters will get messy eventually, and the game itself gets boring fast
